Marcy, NY – Allison Wakefield (Mastic, NY) turned aside 16 of the 19 shots she faced on the night but host SUNY Poly secured a 3-0 victory on Tuesday evening.
The Wildcats (2-0-1) opened the scoring in the 7th minute when Madisyn Proper ripped a shot into the top right corner of goal off a shot deep from the left side of the box. Mereal Evke made it 2-0 in the 21st minute off a pass from Nakeya Stedman. The Wildcats extended their lead 12 minutes later on Proper's second tally of the night.
Wakefield recorded eight first half saves and did not allow a single goal after halftime turning aside an additional eight shots. Kristina DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) led the Roos with two shots on goal, while Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) challenged Angela Bartlett once on the evening.
Wakefield made 16 saves in the contest, while Bartlett made three stops for SUNY Poly.
The women's soccer team returns to the turf on Saturday when they travel up Route 11 to take on SUNY Potsdam at 7 p.m.
