Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's soccer team received an impressive performance between the posts from Kelsi Gilbert (Colton, NY) as they earned a 0-0 double overtime draw vs. visiting Alfred State College on Saturday. The Roos remain unbeaten at 2-0-2, while the Pioneers move to 2-1-1.
The visitors controlled a good portion of the contest but neither team could find the back of the net through 90 minutes of play.
The Roos best chance of the game came with 4:35 left in the first overtime. Katie Lamica (Malone, NY) chipped a ball forward to a sprinting Caitlin Grimshaw (Adams, NY). Alfred State keeper Allison Danielak came charging. After a scrum in front Grimshaw got up and fired a shot that was deflected by a defender just over the cross bar. Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) took the ensuing corner kick as a Lamica header went just wide right.
The Pioneers responded with a great opportunity of their own just over a minute later when Charlotte Rosvold collected the ball off a corner kick and rang a shot off the crossbar. The rebound went right to Julia Yanarella alone out in front but the assistant referee ruled her offside.
Neither team would find the back of the net as the game ended in a 0-0 double overtime draw. Gilbert had a massive performance in goal stopping 21 shots on the afternoon, while Danielak turned aside five Roo shots.
