Utica, NY – Freshman Allison Wakefield (Mastic, NY) made 12 saves but host Utica College scored two first half goals and added three second half scores to earn a 5-0 win against the SUNY Canton women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon.
Keri Berkowitz got the scoring started in the 11th minute to give the Pioneers (2-10-0) a 1-0 lead on her third goal of the season. Ciara McIivenny tallied her second goal of the season five minutes later to double the Utica lead. The hosts took a 2-0 lead at intermission.
McIivenny recorded a pair of goals 65 seconds apart in the second half to open the Pioneer lead to four and earn the hat trick. Amanda Pawlikowski added an insurance goal in the 68th minute to complete the scoring.
Wakefield made eight second half saves to finish with 12 on the day for the Roos (3-9-1), while Jamie Enders and Allison Wagner totaled four saves for the Pioneers. Kristina DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) paced the Roos with two shots on goal, while Victoria Bean (Essex Junction, VT) and Katie Lamica (Malone, NY) added one shot on target apiece.
The women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday when it visits Bryant & Stratton College at 3 p.m.
