Roos women's lax seven game win streak snapped at Oswego

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team led early but 10 straight first half goals led host Oswego State to a 22-6 victory on Friday afternoon.

The Lakers (9-3) used a decisive 23-5 advantage in draw controls which led to a heavy edge in possession. MaryClare Bowes (Irondequoit, NY) put the Roos (10-4) on top early with her 28th goal of her rookie season 57 seconds in. Katelynn Nutter (Carthage, NY) assisted the score.

Oswego State scored 10 straight goals to open a commanding lead with 18:52 remaining in the opening half. Hannah Christiansen (Lake View, NY) caged a pair of goals 1:51 apart to get SUNY Canton within 10-3. Sydney Kinder (New York, NY) assisted the first tally, while the second was of unassisted variety. Tsieboo Herne (Hogansburg, NY) added her 10th goal of the season with 11:21 remaining as the Lakers took a 15-4 lead into intermission.

Devyn Hutcheson (Oswego, NY) and Paige Hart (Oswego, NY) scored second half goals for the Roos, with Lora Ardoin (Houston, TX) picking up an assist on the Hart tally.

Christiansen led the Roos with two goals, two ground balls and two draw controls. Herne, Hutcheson, Hart and Bowes scored one apiece for Canton.

Becca Kieffer (Lee Center, NY) made 12 saves for the Roos, while Angela Ponto turned aside six shots for Oswego State.

The women's lacrosse team will look to set the program wins record on Sunday when it hosts SUNY Poly at 3 p.m.
