Roos women's lax hold Express scoreless after halftime in 15-5 road win

Aurora, NY – The SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team's defense held host Wells College (0-5) without a goal over the final 31 minutes of the contest leading to a 15-5 road victory on Friday.

Leading 8-5 at intermission the Roos (4-3) defense stepped up not allowing a single goal over the final 31:01 of clock time as the offense scored seven second half goals. Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) continued her phenomenal start to the season with seven goals and two assists.

The senior netted four second half goals, while also adding an assist. Meanwhile, Hannah Christiansen (Lake View, NY) scored twice after intermission and Jessica Pele (Estevan, SK) added her first goal of the season.

SUNY Canton jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead 6:24 into the game as Carroll caged a pair of goals along with one tally each from Devyn Hutcheson (Oswego, NY) and MaryClare Bowes (Irondequoit, NY). Carroll, Amanda Woods (Williamsville, NY), Lora Ardoin (Houston, TX) and Christiansen closed out the Roos' first half scoring with one goal each.

Becca Kieffer (Lee Center, NY) made five stops in her fourth win of the season, while Quinn Doubet turned aside 11 shots for Wells. The Roos controlled shots on goal (26-10) and draw controls (13-8).

In addition to her nine points, Carroll posted game-highs of seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Woods also had a big game recording a game-best eight draw controls to go with three caused turnovers and ground balls.

The women's lacrosse team is back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when it visits Medaille College.
