Roos women's lax double up Highlanders in second half en Route to fourth straight win

Houghton, NY – Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) scored six of her seven goals after intermission as the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team earned its fourth straight win with a 16-10 road victory at Houghton College on Thursday.

SUNY Canton (7-3) outscored the Highlanders (2-6) 10-5 in the second half to turn a one goal lead into a six goal victory. Carroll led the offense with seven goals, two above her season average, which ranked fourth nationally entering the week.

MaryClare Bowes (Irondequoit, NY) posted five goals on three goals and two assists, while Lora Ardoin (Houston, TX) scored three times with one helper. Katelynn Nutter (Carthage, NY) caged a pair of goals with one assist, while Tsieboo Herne (Hogansburg, NY) scored the other Roos goal.

SUNY Canton opened the game with a pair of early goals from Bowes and Nutter. Houghton took its first lead of the game 5:13 into the contest when Jennifer Zacchigna scored her second goal of the game.

The teams exchanged a pair of goals before Ardoin scored back-to-back tallies including one with just eight seconds left in the half to give SUNY Canton a 6-3 lead at intermission.

The Roos carried the momentum out of break scoring five straight goals, three of which came off the stick of Carroll. The Highlanders hung tough answering back with four consecutive markers to get within two. The contest proved to be a game of runs as Canton responded with five goals in a row to seal the win.

Amanda Woods (Williamsville, NY) continued her strong play in the midfield with a game-high six ground balls to go with four draw controls. Carroll controlled a game-best 10 draw controls, while she and Mia Jermano (Massena, NY) caused two turnovers apiece.

Becca Kieffer (Lee Center, NY) made nine saves to up her season total to 97, while Kourtnie Frankling turned aside 13 shots in the loss.

The women's lacrosse team has a week off until it visits Oswego State next Thursday at 7 p.m.
