Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team dominated play in the opening half outscoring SUNY Potsdam by eight as the Roos earned a 12-5 victory v. the Bears on Friday.
The Roos (7-5), who defeated the Bears for the first time in program history, led by as many as 12-1 with 12:32 left in the contest before a late burst from Potsdam (4-8).
Molly Denny and Cecelia Neally led the offense with four and three goals, respectively, while Jessica Pele also chipped in two scores, while Allison Auger totaled a goal and two assists.
Carin Sherwood finished with two assists and Logan Bush tallied a game-high five draw controls to go with one goal. Amanda Woods picked up a game-best five ground balls and three caused turnovers to go with her four draw controls.
Alli Stark led Potsdam with two goals, while Alexa Ferrer finished with four ground balls and one goal.
The Bears committed 25 turnovers, while the Roos went 15-for-18 on clear attempts. Meanwhile, Canton's stifling defense forced the Bears to go just 11-for-23 in the clear game.
Nicole Piskorowski made eight saves in the win, while Alexa Ferrer made five stops in the loss for Potsdam.
The women's lacrosse team is back in action next Friday when it visits D'Youville College at 4 p.m.
