(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women’s lacrosse team saw their two-game winning streak snapped by Oswego State as the Lakers handed the Roos a 17-6 loss in Canton on Monday.
Junior Brooke Knight (Madrid, N.Y.) scored three goals to lead the Roos attack. Freshman Keeley Rice (Potsdam, N.Y.) had two goals and a team-high six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Sophomore Tressa Goolden (Canton, N.Y.) contributed one goal and two assists along with two ground balls, and freshman Alyssa Altschuler (Cheshire, Conn.) made 10 saves and had four ground balls for SUNY Canton (2-3).
The Lakers (3-2) scored the first four goals of the game and Knight stopped the run scoring her first goal on a free position shot with 20:10 left in the opening half. Oswego scored twice more to open a 6-1 lead, but the Roos fought back and scored two man-down goals 23 seconds apart. Knight scored off a nice feed from Goolden with 5:57 remaining, and then Goolden scored on a free position to close the gap to three goals, 6-3. Oswego then pumped in three straight before Rice scored from Goolden with 39 seconds left, and Oswego took a 9-4 lead into halftime.
Knight scored her third and final goal 1:50 into the second half, but Oswego went on another strong run with three unanswered. Rice scored her second goal unassisted with 20:22 on the clock, and Oswego closed the game scoring the final five goals.
The Roos generated 22 shots in the game and had 25 ground balls, and they also forced Oswego into 25 turnovers.
Errannan Shattuck had four goals and one assist to lead Oswego. Mackenzie Kjerstad added three goals, and Nikki Greco and Lauren Marois combined for 11 saves in goal.
The Roos hit the road for their next game when they travel to SUNYIT on Wednesday, March 27.
