(Canton, NY) SUNY Canton Women’s ice hockey wins its second straight game with their defeat of Oswego State University Saturday night by a score of 4-1. The Roos improve to 3-8 with the non-league win against the Lakers.

The Roos opened up scoring in the first period with a goal by freshman forward Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, Ontario) who was assisted by Karley Cree (Hogansburg, NY) and Steph Kushnir (Goshen, NY) twelve minutes into action. Oswego fired back four minutes later with an unassisted goal by Sabrina Edwards, ending the initial period with a 1-1 score line.

The second period saw Cree score a goal eight minutes into action with Carroll on the assist. The Roos ended the period up 2-1 with a 25-3 shot advantage and solid goaltending by freshman Victoria Taylor (Hokah, Minn.)

The third period was decisive for Canton as they continued their offensive pressure and took advantage of key situations. Thirteen minutes into the period Kushner scored on the Lakers goalie Sarah Kenyon with an assist by Keri Dempsey (Wappingers Falls, NY). “We were working really hard throughout the game” commented head coach Melissa Lomanto. “The ladies had a hard-nosed, defensive effort but we had a really strong third period”. The Roos sealed the victory with an open-net, unassisted goal by freshman forward Grace Lyon (Winthrop, NY) with 21 seconds left in the game as the Lakers pulled their goalie. Victoria Taylor was in action the entire game in the net for the Roos, facing 10 shots in the contest.

The Roos are back in action tomorrow as they face the Catamounts of the University of Vermont at 11:00am at the Roos House. This will end a three-game weekend for Canton as the SUNY Canton Jamboree enters its final day of action.
