Alfred, NY – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team scored the most points it had in at least the last six seasons but fell short to host Alfred University 98-88 on Saturday evening.

The closest SUNY Canton has come to their 88 points in the last six seasons is when they posted 86 in an 86-81 win against the College of St. Joseph on February 5, 2012.

Freshman point guard Taylor Saltus (Clintonville, NY) finished with a team and career-high 30 points on 13-of-25 shooting. She also recorded a game-high seven steals and added four assists. Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds while dishing out six assists.

Tatiana Laroche (Elmont, NY) posted 17 points and eight rebounds on 6-for-11 shooting, while Brianna Sayer (Hermon, NY) added 12 points. Logan Tallman (Heuvelton, NY) registered a game-high seven assists.

The game was back-and-forth early on but the Roos (7-14) took control and held their largest lead of the game at 13 (35-22) with 8:19 remaining in the opening half after a Sayer lay-up.

SUNY Canton turned the ball over four straight times and Alfred closed the half on a 12-0 run to take a 45-44 lead into intermission. The Roos shot 53 percent in the first half.

The Saxons (5-16) scored nine of the first 12 second half points to open up a seven-point advantage. The Roos would get within five at 88-83 with 2:15 remaining after a Sayer jumper, but Alfred responded with an 8-0 run that included three-pointers from McKaylee Croll and Harley Cleary to hold on for the victory.

Alfred University shot 52 percent from the field in the game including a 46 percent mark from long distance (11-for-24), which proved to be the difference.

Cleary posted a game-high 32 points including six makes from long distance, while Croll added 23 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Amanda Off (18), Maddi Flint (12) and Emilea Harrison also recorded double figure points.

The women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Sunday when it remains in Alfred, NY to take on Alfred State College at 12 PM.
