Canton, NY – Logan Conger (Tyendinaga, ON) recorded two assists and Kat McNeilly (Scarborough, ON) added a goal and assist as the SUNY Canton women's hockey team earned a 2-0 Colonial Hockey Conference victory against visiting Salem State University on Saturday afternoon at the Roos House.
The Roos (4-4-1, 4-1-1 CHC) got on the board first at 16:47 of the first when Rhea Coad (Wheatfield, NY) netted her second goal in as many games on a beautiful play. She dangled and lifted a backhanded shot top shelf into the right corner of net. Conger and McNeilly earned helpers on the play. The Roos took a 1-0 lead into first intermission after outshooting the Vikings 19-4 in the opening period.
SUNY Canton extended its lead to 2-0 at 13:12 of the second when Conger set up her second goal of the night. Conger delivered the puck from the left corner to McNeilly who ripped a shot high over the stick side of Salem State (3-4-0, 2-4-0 CHC) goaltender Jenn Toussaint. The Roos took a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in an even third period as the Vikings held a slim 9-8 shots on goal advantage. Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) stopped all 21 shots she faced to secure the shutout, while Toussaint made 47 stops for Salem State.
The women's hockey team is back in action on Tuesday when it visits Trinity College for a
7:30 p.m. puck drop.
