Owings Mills, MD – The SUNY Canton women's hockey team scored back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead midway through the third period but conference leader Stevenson University scored twice over the final seven minutes to earn a 3-2 Colonial Hockey Conference victory on Saturday.

The special team units for both teams had big nights as four of the contest's five goals were scored on the power play as the teams combined to go 4-for-13 with the skater advantage.

Jessie Capanelli lit the lamp for the 12th time of the season on the power play at 16:10 to give Stevenson (21-3-1, 13-0-1 CHC) a 1-0 lead. The hosts took that advantage into intermission despite the Roos (7-17-1, 7-6-1 CHC) outshooting the Mustangs 7-5 over the opening 20 minutes.

SUNY Canton extended its shot advantage to 13-8 in the middle period and that paid off when Margret Troiano (Morristown, NY) buried her second goal in the last three games at 17:14. Reagan Lynn (Chicago, IL) and Illie Berisha (Lake Ariel, PA) set up the power play goal. The teams skated into second intermission knotted at 1-1.

The Roos took their first lead of the weekend 9:27 into the final frame when Noelle Niemiec (Staten Island, NY) put home her fourth tally of the season off a pass from Jessica Pele (Estevan, SK).

The Mustangs battled back as Monica Pozuc netted a pair of goals 5:03 apart, including the game-winner with just 1:18 to play as Stevenson closed out conference play without a single loss, securing a first place finish.

This concludes the regular season for the Roos who will take part in the CHC playoffs beginning one week from today, February 27th. Official seeding and matchups for the playoffs will be released from the conference office tomorrow at 12 p.m.
