Canton, NY – Freshman Brooke Susac made 39 saves but the SUNY Canton offense was held scoreless as visiting Utica College earned a 2-0 win on Tuesday afternoon in the Roos House.

The Roos (6-7-0) where whistled for a holding penalty just 2:50 into the contest and the Pioneeers (7-4-0) made Canton pay just 10 seconds later when the puck deflected to Taylor Osowski just inside the left circle as she beat Roo goaltender Brooke Susac for the early lead. Jennifer Liu and Kayla Dion were also credited with assists on the play. Utica held a 15-9 edge in shots after the opening period.

The Pioneers doubled their lead at 3:36 of the middle period when Emily Coope circled with the puck to the point and fired a shot that was redirected by Meghan Power to Kayla Dion at the near post who put home her third goal of the season. Susac made 14 more saves in the second period to keep the Roos within two after 40 minutes.

Neither team found the back of the net over the final 20 minutes as Canton looked to make a comeback. The Roos had one power play chance in the final four minutes and pulled Susac with 1:03 remaining but were unable to get a shot off.

Susac made 39 saves in net for the Roos, while Keira Goin turned aside all 19 shots she faced in the shutout for Utica. The Pioneers went 1-for-5 on the power play, while Canton was 0-for-4 with the skater advantage.

The women's hockey team has a quick turnaround as it hosts William Smith College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Roos House.
