Owings Mills, MD – Host Stevenson University scored three goals in the second period to earn a 4-0 Colonial Hockey Conference victory on Friday afternoon at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
Madison Lange opened the scoring midway through the first for the hosts as she slotted her ninth goal of the season off passes from Allie Sabatini and Erin McLoughlin. The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Stevenson (20-3-1, 12-0-1 CHC) erupted for three scores in the middle period as Katie Abbott buried her seventh goal of the season just 2:29 in off the setup from Chelsea Blackburn. McKenzie Taggart slid the puck past Roo goaltender Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) 2:20 later to up the lead to 3-0.
The Mustangs rounded out the scoring with just 12 seconds remaining in the period on the power play. SUNY Canton (7-16-1, 7-5-1 CHC) dumped the puck into their offensive zone looking to make a quick change. Stevenson was swift to get on the attack resulting in a 2-on-1 as Blackburn found Megan Alexander for the four goal lead.
Neither team scored over the final 20 minutes of play. Illie Berisha (Lake Ariel, PA) turned aside all nine shots she faced in relief, after replacing DiNardo who made 15 saves over the first 40 minutes. Sarah Modzelewski stopped all 17 shots she faced in the shutout, her 16th victory of the season.
The women's hockey team will close out the regular season on Saturday when it has a rematch against Stevenson University at 5:15 p.m.
