Roos' women’s hockey closes out weekend set v. Endicott

Canton, NY – Visiting Endicott College scored one goal in each period to earn a 3-0 Colonial Hockey Conference victory against host SUNY Canton on Saturday afternoon in the Roos House.

The visitors got on the board 7:56 into the first when Maggie Layo hit Caroline Hughes with a pass across the slot. Hughes lifted the puck over a diving defender that took Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) out of position on the play. After Rhea Coad (Wheatfield, NY) was whistled for a double minor at 5:09 the Roos (4-14-1, 4-3-1 CHC) penalty kill unit did a great job as DiNardo made five saves and Anna Lagzdina (Ozolnieki, Latvia) blocked a pair of shots.

The Gulls (10-6-3, 6-1-1 doubled their lead at 10:58 of the middle period when Samantha Fuller slid a shot past the glove of DiNardo just inside the right post. Maddy McNeally and Meaghan Farragher earned helpers on the play. Endicott took a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.

Endicott added a power play goal off the stick of Danielle Comorre 1:18 into the third period leading to the 3-0 final.

DiNardo turned aside 20 shots for SUNY Canton,while Vendela Jonsson made 34 saves in the shutout for the Gulls. Tess Adams (Calgary, AB) led the Roos with 11 shots as SUNY Canton outshot Endicott 34-23.

The women's hockey team is back in action when it hits the road for a pair of CHC games at Becker College on Friday and Saturday. Puck drops are set for 8:10 p.m. and 12:50 p.m., respectively.
