(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women's cross country team came in second place at the Sunrise Conference cross country championships in Canton.
The Roos were led by Tari Lyndaker, who recently joined the team, who came in fifth place overall in a time of 23:56. Lyndaker was named to the all-conference team.
Senior Katleyn Anthony (Spencerport, N.Y.) and sophomore Kristie Melven (Attica, N.Y.) turned in strong races for the Roos. Anthony finished in eighth place in a time of 26:50 and Melven was right behind in ninth place in a time of 26:57.
"Tari ran very well for us today and Katelyn and Kristie both had terrific races, "said head coach John Kennedy. "I was very happy with all their performances today in very tough conditions."
Kati Christoffel of the University of Maine at Presque Isle was the overall winner and Runner of the Year with a time of 21:37. She advanced to the NAIA national meet on Nov. 20 in Vancouver, Wash. along with teammates Shelly Hanson and Carly Langley who finished second and third respectively.
"I think the fan support we had today was a huge help," Kennedy said. "I really appreciate the other teams that came out to cheer for us and all the support from residence life, the college association and student activites."
