Roos women's basketball hold off Morrisville at home

(Canton, N.Y.) - The SUNY Canton women’s basketball team held off Morrisville State College 50-48 Friday night at Roos House in Canton.

Junior Alicia Uhlein (Watertown, N.Y.) scored on a layup with 1:26 left in the second half that gave the Roos a three-point cushion at 49-46. Morrisville’s Joslyn Paige made it a one-point contest when she converted a layup with 48 seconds left, but sophomore Corrine Riegel (Bainbridge, N.Y.) sank one of two free throws with 20 seconds remaining for the final margin of victory.

SUNY Canton improved to 9-7 overall winning for the fourth time in the last six games. The Roos also wiped out a three-point deficit, 25-22, at halftime and out rebounded the Mustangs 42-34.

Junior Kaitlin Myers (Dannemora, N.Y.) led three SUNY Canton players in double figures, as she scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for her fourth double-double this season. Junior Joelle Percy (Black River, N.Y.) nailed four of the Roos seven 3-pointers and finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. Riegel added 11 points and two steals, and Uhlein and freshman Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, N.Y.) each had five points apiece.

Jennel Paul led Morrisville (1-14) with 17 points and five assists, and Queen Holquin added 11 points and five rebounds.

The Roos are off until the following weekend when they hit the road for games at the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday, Jan. 26 and the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Jan. 27.
