(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women’s basketball team lost to the University of Maine at Presque Isle 54-46 Sunday afternoon in Roos House.

Freshman forward Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, N.Y.) turned in her second straight double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds and she grabbed total of 35 boards in two games this weekend. Junior guard Alicia Uhlein (Watertown, N.Y.) scored a team-high 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out four assists and freshman forward Brianna Sayer (Hermon, N.Y.) also reached double figures with 11 points, nine rebounds and four steals.

The Roos got off to a fast start racing out to a 6-1 lead thanks to five points from Uhlein and a free throw by Terrance. But the Owls rallied hitting three straight 3-pointers to pull ahead 10-7 with 13:19. The lead see-sawed the rest of the half with five ties and three lead changes before the Owls took a six-point advantage (28-22) at the break.

Presque Isle led the whole second half but SUNY Canton (6-6) did pull within two points following a Uhlein layup with 2:52 remaining. But the Roos could only manage one free two for the remainder of the game as they went 0-for-4 from the field in the final 90 seconds of the game.

Emily Pelletier knocked down five 3-pointers and matched Uhlein with 17 points and Olivia McNally added 11 points and seven assists for the Owls (2-8).

SUNY Canton is off until next weekend when they travel to Vermont to play Vermont Technical College on Friday, Jan. 11 and the College of St. Joseph on Saturday, Jan. 12.
