(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women’s basketball team came up short against the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Monday as they lost 58-56 to the Owls.
Junior Kaitlin Myers (Dannemora, N.Y.) dropped in 16 points to lead the Roos (3-9) and junior Jackie Sedlacek (Endicott, N.Y.) posted her second straight double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
After both teams traded baskets in the early minutes of the first half, the Roos surged ahead off a 9-2 run capped by a Myers 3-pointer with 10:20 remaining that gave the home team a 13-10 lead. The Roos stretched their lead to nine points at halftime as they closed the half on a 9-0 run converting four layups.
The Roos (3-9) continued to press in the second half and extended their lead to double-digits scoring another layup on their first offensive possession. The Owls came to life down the stretch and closed the game on an impressive run to squeak out the win.
Myers finished with three triples and also dished out three assists. Junior Brittany Crump (North Lawrence, N.Y.) came off the bench to score 12 points and grab four rebounds. Freshman Tricia Boland (Hammond, N.Y.) added six points and three boards.
The Owls were led by Emily Pelletier who drilled eight 3-pointers for 27 points.
The Roos are next in action this Wednesday, Jan. 11 when they host Wells College at 2 p.m.
