(Throggs Neck, N.Y.)- Junior Katlyn Hart (Harrisville, N.Y.) and freshman Karley Cree (Hogansburg, N.Y.) each scored twice leading the SUNY Canton women’s soccer team to a 5-2 rout of SUNY Maritime on Saturday in Throggs Neck, N.Y.

The Roos scored the first three goals of the game and never let up as they improved to 2-1 overall. SUNY Canton outshot the Privateers 13-2 in Saturday’s contest and generated six corner kicks to just two for Maritime.

Junior Melissa Campoverde (Forest Hills, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Roos in the 18th minute scoring off a corner kick from senior Chelsea Allen (Marcellus, N.Y.), who notched two assists in the game. Cree stretched the lead to 2-0 when she tallied her first goal in the 29th minute after taking a nice lead pass from freshman Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, N.Y.) and blasting in a shot from 12 yards out.

Cree scored again to start the second half in the 47th minute when she collected a pass from freshman Kortney Rincavage (Glen Aubrey, N.Y.) and lofted a soft rainbow shot over Maritime’s goaltender. Cree has scored a team-leading six goals this season.

The Privateers got on the board in the 56th minute when Jorrie Trenkemp tallied the first of her two goals on the day. Hart extended the lead back to a three-goal margin when she scored an unassisted goal after a scramble in front of the Privateers goal in the 61st minute. Hart scored again a minute later on a breakaway with Allen picking up her second assist for the visiting team’s final score of the afternoon. Trenkemp made the final score 5-2 with her second tally in the 64th minute.

Sophomore Laura Pratt (Binghamton, N.Y.) had two saves for the Roos who will next face The King’s College on Saturday.

Meghin Paczkowski had four saves for Maritime.
