(Canton, N.Y.)- Sophomore Shiloh Bourgeois (Keesville, N.Y.) smacked a walk-off, game-winning RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifting the SUNY Canton softball team to a 5-4 win over Morrisville State College on Wednesday.

The Roos found themselves down 4-2 after 5 ½ innings but then pulled off another tremendous comeback to earn their fourth win in their last five games. In the bottom of the sixth, Bourgeois reached base on an error and two outs later advanced to second on a passed ball. Freshman Jena Cryderman (Madrid, N.Y.) then pulled the Roos within one at 4-3 plating Bourgeois with an RBI-single to left field.

The Roos (6-13) defense forced the Mustangs to go three-and-out in the top half of the seventh inning highlighted by a spectacular catch in left field by junior Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.). In the bottom half of the frame sophomore Melissa Campoverde (Forest Hills, N.Y.) started the rally reaching on an error. Freshman Kelsey Nash (Tully, N.Y.) came in to pinch run and moved ahead a base on a single from sophomore Emiley Walters (Lancaster, N.Y.) and then tied the game scoring on an error by the Mustangs centerfielder on the same play. Freshman Kaylin Switzer (Orwell, N.Y.) pinch ran for Walters and moved to third base on a single from freshman Jessica Rhodes (Alpine, N.Y.) and then Switzer came around to score when Bourgeois laced the game-winning hit ending the contest.

"I was very pleased with the way we battled back in the second game, especially with a tough day weather-wise with rain and wind and hail" said head coach Bryan Ingalls. "Being able to get a win when we did not play the way we are nearly capable of playing shows me how good we can be when we get it all together."

Walters, junior Jessica Measheaw (Hammond, N.Y.) and Cryderman all finished with two hits. Measheaw notched the win as she struck out three batters over seven innings and didn’t allow a walk while allowing 10 hits and three earned runs.

Cassandra Smith hit a two-run home run to lead Morrisville and Jenna D’Ercole gave up 10 hits with eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

In the opening game, which the Mustangs took 5-3, freshman Olivia Blackmore (Madrid, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 and scored twice to lead the home team. Campoverde and Nash each added a single and Lottie was saddled with the loss as she fanned four batters and gave up three earned runs on nine hits and two walks.

Monique Smith went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run and D’Ercole recorded 15 strikeouts to lead the Mustangs.

The Roos hit the road for their next two doubleheaders starting Saturday, April 7 at Briarcliffe College on Long Island.
