(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women’s volleyball team stayed unbeaten at home with a 3-1 win over Plattsburgh State Tuesday night.

The Roos won their ninth straight match and improved to 16-2 overall and moved to 10-0 on their home court this season.

All four games on Tuesday were hard-fought by both teams as each squad came up with some unbelievable defensive plays and solid strikes on offense. In the opening set, the Roos rallied from an early 3-2 deficit to reel off five straight points to jump ahead 7-3. After a tremendous rally and a kill from sophomore Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, Ontario), the home team found themselves ahead 11-7. That lead would eventually stretch to 20-10 and then sophomore Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, N.Y.) closed out the set with a great tip into an open space for the 25-13 win.

In the second set, the Roos scored the first four points and extended their lead to 7-2 with great plays on offense and defense. After the Cardinals trimmed the lead to 8-6 with a 4-1 run, SUNY Canton countered with a 6-2 run and eventually went on to win 25-23. Plattsburgh rallied from the 2-0 deficit to win the third set 25-22 but the Roos closed out the match and avenged an early season loss to Plattsburgh with a 25-21 win in the fourth set.

Freshman Morgan Bills (Walworth, N.Y.) and senior Danielle Swanston (Burke, N.Y.) pounded down 12 kills apiece to lead the Roos. Swanston also had 10 digs and Bills had three aces.

Mynter passed out 38 assists and made 11 digs and eight kills. Freshman Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, Ontario) made 21 digs. Reynolds finished with 13 digs and eight kills and sophomore Caitlin Grimshaw (Adams, N.Y.) contributed seven kills.

The Roos are next in action at home this Saturday, Oct. 13 hosting Houghton College at 2 p.m.
