Fredonia, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the Fredonia Tournament on Saturday.
The Roos nearly came back but fell in five sets to Ithaca College 3-2 (24-26, 23-25, 25-19, 26-24, 10-15) before sweeping host Fredonia 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-23).
Game 1 - Box
After dropping a pair of sets by just two points in the first two frames the Roos battled back earning 25-19 and 26-24 victories in the third and fourth sets. The Bombers (17-1) survived taking the final set 15-10. The numbers were extremely even as SUNY Canton actually finished with more kills (62-56) and less errors (24-29) than Ithaca.
Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) had a monster match finishing with a season-high 20 kills, while Haley Riley (Lowville, NY) and Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) added 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Rachel Lowther (Woodbridge, VA) chipped in with nine kills, while Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) posted a career-high 56 assists and 15 digs. Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) was a workhorse defensively not allowing a ball to hit the floor with a season-best 30 digs. Lindsay Bryer (Wilson, NY) added 30 digs and Cornish posted three aces.
Game 2 - Box
The opening set of their second match of the day went to extra points but the Roos earned a 27-25 victory. The match was tight throughout but SUNY Canton secured the straight set win 25-21, 25-23. The Roos produced 43 kills while hitting .230 on 135 attack attempts.
Bills once again led the way with a match-best 15 kills, while Cornish added 13 and Morgan Wicks (Hartford, NY) posted six. Carroll recorded 26 digs finishing the day with 56 total. Robinson added 36 assists and 16 digs.
For their performances on the weekend Morgan Bills and Robyn Carroll were named to the All-Tournament Team.
