Center Valley, PA – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team split a pair of matches sweeping host Desales University 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-18) before falling in straight sets 3-0 (16-25, 17-25, 20-25) to Susquehanna University.
The Roos (21-6) had 14 or more kills in each set of their sweep against host Desales University. Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) led SUNY Canton with 12 kills and six blocks, while Caitlin Grimshaw (Adams, NY) posted 11 kills and nine digs. Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, ON) finished with 10 kills and seven digs.
Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) had an all around strong effort with 15 digs and four service aces. Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, NY) tallied 29 assists, 16 digs, five kills, three blocks and two aces, while Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) recorded a team-high 17 digs.
SUNY Canton had 30 kills in its second match of the day but 21 hitting errors proved costly as three players finished with negative hitting percentages. Grimshaw was the lone Roo to produce double digit kills with 10 and added four digs and three blocks. Reynolds posted six kills and 11 digs but also had a team-high seven hitting errors. Caroll was strong defensively with a team-high 12 digs, while Mynter tallied 26 assists, six digs, three kills and two aces.
The women's volleyball team is back in action on Thursday morning when they open pool play at 10:00 a.m. in Dana Hall for the 2014 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships hosted by SUNY Canton.
