(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women’s volleyball team wrapped up the regular season in commanding fashion as they beat Houghton College 3-1 and St. Lawrence University 3-0 in the second day of the Houghton tournament.

The Roos are one of the hottest teams going as they’ve reeled off 17 straight wins dominating opponents and they end the regular season with an astounding 24-2 overall record. They’ll now set their sights on the USCAA national championship which will be held at SUNY Canton Nov. 2-4. The Roos have earned the third seed in the tournament.

The Roos finished 4-0 at the Highlanders tournament beating Wells College and the University of Maine at Presque Isle Friday night plus the two wins on Saturday. In the Roos first matchup against Houghton SUNY Canton dropped the first set 30-28 and then beat the Highlanders for the second time this year winning the next three sets 25-17, 25-13 and 25-23. The Roos jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Saints in their second match but then fell behind by 11 points in the third set before pulling out a stunning 26-24 rally to earn the sweep.

Sophomore Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, N.Y.) was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after handing out 32 assists with two aces against Houghton and then collecting 21 more assists against St. Lawrence. She also had 26 assists against Wells College. Senior Danielle Swanston (Burke, N.Y.) joined Mynter on the all-tournament team as she nailed 19 kills combined in both matches on Saturday.

Freshman Morgan Bills (Walworth, N.Y.) recorded 10 kills against Houghton and sophomore Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, Ontario) had 11 kills and two aces.

Bills had eight blocks and six kills for the Roos against the Saints. Freshman Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, Ontario) added five service aces and senior Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.) contributed three kills.
