Roos top Keuka 3-1 to close Victory Promotions volleyball tourney

Potsdam, NY – The SUNY Canton Kangaroos played a doubleheader to finish play in the in the Victory Promotions Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Potsdam. In the morning matchup, the Roos fell in four sets to the SUNY Potsdam Bears, but took a 3-1 win to close out their weekend versus Keuka College. After leading the team versus Fredonia last night, Shea Norton (Batavia, NY) provided another two games of consistent play for the Roos. Her 32.5 points on the day led the team, while she tallied 23 digs to keep the Roos up during some key rallies. Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) combined in both games for 77 assists.

The Roos were resilient throughout the match, but fell just short to the host Bears, who recorded 11 aces in the match. SUNY Canton took the third set 25-21, but the Bears roared back closing it out in the fourth 25-16. Marissa Ixtlahuac (Carthage, NY) and Jordan Dormady (Kinderhook, NY) both added 10 points. Sophomore middle blocker Melissa McMaster (Pittsford, NY) led all players in blocks with three.

Versus the Keuka Wolves in the afternoon, the Roos collectively contributed to the win as eight players got in on the scoring. Robinson's 44 assists set the team up for success, while McMaster scored 13 points on 12 kills, and Norton led all players with 20 points. Skye Hansen (Rochester, NY) and Ixtlahuac chipped in eight points each, and Dormandy tallied nine. Sophomore libero Jenna Roat (Penfield, NY) added 17 digs in a very well-balanced outing for the Roos to finish the weekend strong.

 The women's volleyball team returns to action on Friday when it takes part in the Oswego State Tournament. The Roos open v. Elmira College at 5 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. tilt v. the host Lakers.
