Roos Svolleyball sweeps Utica and Johnson State as LaMarche eclipses 100 win mark

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team put up a strong performance on Saturday at the Roos House sweeping visiting Utica College and Johnson State College at their home tri-match. The Roos (6-4) defeated the Pioneers, 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-14) before sweeping the Badgers, 3-0 (25-13, 25-6, 25-5).

The wins were the 100th and 101st career coaching wins for Head Coach Carol LaMarche. She earned her 100th in the sweep of Utica.

After opening up a 15-10 lead the Roos closed the first set on a 10-2 spurt to handle Utica, 25-12. The team put down 14 kills to go with a phenomenal .407 hitting percentage, while the Pioneers had just five put downs compared to seven attacking errors. SUNY Canton controlled the second frame with 11 more kills and floored 14 balls in the third set cruising, 25-16 and 25-14.

Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) led all players with 13 kills and a .481 hitting percentage. Caitlin Grimshaw (Adams, NY) registered 10 put downs and five digs, while Robyn Carroll posted a team-high seven digs. Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, NY) and Kiana Archer (Plattsburgh, NY) posted 25 and 10 assists, respectively.

The Roos dictated play from start to finish in dominating fashion in a sweep of the Badgers. SUNY Canton posted 36 kills in the match, while Johnson State finished with just seven kills.

Grimshaw led the way once again with 12 kills hitting an astonishing .750 on her 16 attack attempts without a single error. Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, ON) registered 10 putdowns, while Mackenzie Mynter posted a match-high 30 assists. Grimshaw pinpointed five service aces, while Emily Thomas (Horseheads, NY) was also showed an effective service game with four aces.

The women's volleyball team hosts Plattsburgh State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Roos House.
