Roos softball Dowling USCAA First Team All-American again

Akron, OH – Junior Shannon Dowling (Oneida, NY) was named a First Team United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-American for the second consecutive season, while teammates Kaleigh Foran (Fort Ann, NY) and Rhea Coad (Wheatfield, NY) joined her as Second Team All-Americans.

Dowling, a 2014 and 2015 USCAA First Team All-American had another monster year for the Roos. She hit .429 in 98 at-bats with four home runs, eight doubles, three triples, 25 RBI and 68 total bases. She leads the team with a .694 slugging percentage and also boasts a .486 on-base percentage. The junior is a force behind the plate causing base-runners to rarely attempt stealing on her. She had 144 put outs and 19 assists with just four errors for a .976 fielding percentage. Dowling was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate Player of the Week on March 31st.

Foran, a Second Team All-American, had a remarkable rookie season leading the Roos as one of the top players in every statistical category including: batting average (.422), hits (46), runs (37) and on-base percentage (.508). She had three doubles, two triples and 21 RBI. She has been by far the Roos most consistent infielder playing shortstop and second base where she has 63 put outs and 69 assists, compared to just seven errors for a .950 fielding percentage. Foran was honored as the SUNY Canton Female Rookie of the Year, was named USCAA Player of the Week (3/17) and also earned ECAC Upstate Rookie of the Week (3/17).

Coad, a Second Team All-American, had a phenomenal sophomore season for the Roos hitting .388 from the left side of the plate with 40 hits, 25 RBI, 22 runs, a team-best 12 doubles, 2 triples a home run and 59 total bases. She has a .573 slugging percentage and has drawn a team-best 15 to walks. The outfielder has a .976 fielding percentage with 37 put outs and three assists with just one error. Coad was recognized as the USCAA Player of the Week on April 7th.

Additionally, Stephanie LaValley (Champlain, NY) was recognized on the USCAA All-Academic Team. To earn this award a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
