Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's hockey team stormed back scoring four unanswered goals in a span of 6 minutes, 30 seconds to earn a 6-6 overtime tie against No. 8 nationally-ranked SUNY Geneseo on Friday evening in the Roos House.

Tyler Bullard (Ballston Spa, NY) sparked the decisive three goal comeback netting a pair of goals just 10 seconds apart early in the third period.

Geneseo (2-1-1) opened the scoring at 2:48 of the first when David Szmyd picked the puck up in the neutral zone at the near boards. He skated into the zone and lifted a shot near post over the glove of Roo goaltender Michael Cerasuolo (Montreal, QC). The Knights doubled their lead at 11:22 when Trevor Hills lit the lamp for the second time on the season off passes from Stephen Collins and Pat Condon.

The Roos (1-2-1) got one back with the skater advantage four minutes later. Kasey Kulczyki (Laval, QUE) won a faceoff at the right circle back to Josh Sova (Oswego, NY). The junior captain found David Hopfer (Tonawanda, NY) at the point who swung a cross-ice pass to Vili-Jesper Koivula (Pinsiö, Finland) who put home his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Bullard found Patrick Farnan (Clifton Park, NY) in space on a beautiful outlet pass as he skated in on the breakaway and lifted a shot top shelf past Geneseo goaltender Devin McDonald to even the score at two as the teams headed to first intermission tied at 2-2.

Despite the teams registering 10 shots apiece in the middle period it was Geneseo who outscored the Roos 3-0 in the frame. Devin Brink netted an unassisted marker at the 7:50 mark before Szmyd cashed in on his second of the night and Condon added his second point of the night on a goal with 1:24 remaining to give the Knights a 5-2 lead after two.

Clearly Head Coach Alex Boak's speech at intermission fired the team up as the Roos came out with new intensity early in the third. Bullard scored a pair of unassisted markers 10 seconds apart in a 1 minute, 34 seconds span as the Roos were suddenly within one at just 5-4.

Nick Lepone (Richmonhill, ON) rifled a shot past McDonald at the 6:31 mark of the period off the setup from Joe Deveny (Stoufville, ON) as SUNY Canton drew even. Just 1:23 later the Roos took their first lead of the game when Joey Vocino (Pickering, ON) found Koivula for his second of the night to cap four Canton goals in just 6:30 of clock time.

With 2:16 remaining the Roos were whistled for a costly tripping penalty and six seconds later the Knights pulled their goalie for a 6-on-4 skater advantage with 2:10 to play. Thirty-four seconds later Geneseo tied the game as Collins found Hills for his second goal of the game ultimately sending the game to overtime.

Geneseo had four shots in overtime compared to three scoring opportunities for Canton as the teams played to a 6-6 tie. Cerasuolo made 14 stops over the first 37:22, while Josh Erickson (Woodbury, MN) stopped 12 shots over the final 27:38 to earn the tie. McDonald made 22 saves for the Knights.

These two teams will have a rematch on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Roos House.
