Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's soccer team got huge contributions from Nick Escalante (Whittier, CA) and Tyler Gallagher (Potsdam, NY) to lead them to a 4-1 victory Sunday afternoon against visiting SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF). The win improves the Kangaroos to 6-5-0, while the loss drops the Mighty Oaks to 7-3-1.

SUNY Canton got on the board first just 5:28 into the contest. The Roos took the ball into their offensive end and after a SUNY ESF defender committed a foul in the box Escalante calmly stepped up and drained the penalty kick for the 1-0 lead. In the 26th minute the hosts would add on another. Gallagher played Escalante in on the breakaway. Mighty Oak keeper Mike Walczyk came charging out but Escalante chipped the ball over the keeper into the upper left hand corner for the two-goal advantage.

SUNY ESF would respond in the 33rd minute when Kyle Siegel played the ball to Kyle Bardwell who shot from the left side and had the ball deflect into the right side netting to make it 2-1. The Roos held advantages in shots (5-2), shots on goal (3-1) and corner kicks (3-0) leading 2-1 on the scoreboard at intermission.

The intensity of both teams picked up in the second half as things became more physical. The Roos played sound defense protecting their one-goal lead. SUNY Canton broke through in the 86th minute with an important insurance marker. Escalante took the corner kick from the right sideline and found Gallagher in front of goal who redirected a header into the back of the net.

SUNY Canton tacked on another tally two minutes later when Abdulai Jagana (Bronx, NY) played the ball up to Escalante who headed it to an open Prince Adjei (Bronx, NY) who drilled a shot off the top of the crossbar that went straight down and landed just beyond the goal line for the score.

The Roos held edges in shots (9-3), shots on goal (7-2) and corner kicks 8-2. Evan Drew (Elizabethtown, NY) stopped one shot in his fifth win of the season, while
