(Johnson, Vt.)- The SUNY Canton men's basketball team opened the new year with a 66-52 loss to Johnson State College Friday night in Vermont.

The Roos dropped to 1-6 overall.

SUNY Canton fell behind by 16 points late in the first half before closing on a 7-0 run to trail by just nine points at the break.

The Roos kept chipping away at the lead and trimmed the lead to a single point at 48-47 with 8:23 left in regulation. But the Badgers clamped down on defense and held the Roos to just one field goal and five points the rest of the way.

SUNY Canton dominated Johnson State on the glass as they grabbed 18 offensive rebounds and held a 46-30 rebounding advantage. But the Roos struggled from the floor as they shot just 27 percent from the field and converted only three of 12 three-point attempts.
