(Lynn, Mass.)- The SUNY Canton softball team pulled off a remarkable comeback to capture a 16-9 win over Fisher College Friday afternoon in Lynn, Mass. The Roos then used a strong first inning to post a 16-3 win in game two of the doubleheader.

In the opener the Falcons jumped out to a 9-0 lead after one inning but the Roos responded in a stunning manor by reeling off 16 unanswered runs over the next four innings to gain the victory.

"We came out a little tight and flat in that first inning but I was happy with the way we responded, " said head coach Bryan Ingalls. "It was a good wake up call for us and a good test and showed how well we can respond to adversity. That will pay off in later games."

For the second day in a row every SUNY Canton starter had least one hit in the opening game led by freshman Marie Mason (Pulaski, N.Y.) who laced a run-scoring triple finishing 3-for-5 with five runs scored. Sophomore Shiloh Bourgeois (Keesville, N.Y.) went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Junior Jessica Measheaw (Hammond, N.Y.) banged out three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. Junior Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.) also doubled for the Roos and sophomore Emiley Walters (Lancaster, N.Y.) and freshman Kelsey Nash (Tully, N.Y.) each added two RBIs.

In game two the Roos posted 11 runs in the first inning to quickly take command of the game and held the home team to just three runs the rest of the contest to sweep the three-game series with the Falcons following Thursday night’s 20-4 win. Sophomore Melissa Campoverde (Forest Hills, N.Y.) drove in four runs to pace the Roos at the plate. Freshman Jessica Rhodes (Alpine, N.Y.) went 4-for-4 with an RBI. Walters added three more hits and Lottie and Bourgeoise each finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

SUNY Canton returns to the field on Wednesday, April 4 when they play their first home games of the spring hosting Morrisville State College in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
