(Canton, N.Y.)- Despite a strong defensive effort and a career-high 13 saves from sophomore goalie Laura Pratt (Binghamton, N.Y.) the SUNY Canton women’s soccer team came up short against SUNY Brockport on Tuesday losing 4-0.

Pratt made five saves in the first half against the Golden Eagles, who are ranked fourth in the NSCAA East Region, keeping the game a 1-0 advantage for Brockport. Pratt then made eight more saves in the final 45 minutes to complete a stellar night for the Roos (6-6).

“Today was a hard fought battle against one of the stronger teams in the East,” said head coach Kate Thomas-Moody. “I thought we played very well and I thought our defense had a fantastic game. It was an exciting contest to watch and a lot of players stepped up to compensate for some of our starters that are injured.”

Brockport scored the only goal of the first half in the 10th minute and then added goals in the 52nd, 54th and 78th to claim the victory and improved to 8-2-1.

The Roos are next in action on Sunday, Oct. 7 when they hit the road to play at Wells College. SUNY Canton then returns to its home turf for their final home game of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 9 when they host SUNY Potsdam in the 3rd Annual Boyd Jones Memorial Cup starting at 7 p.m.
