Schenectady, NY – Union College scored twice in the first 35 minutes en route to a 6-0 victory over the SUNY Canton men's soccer team on Saturday.
The Roos move to .500 at 3-3-0 overall, while the Dutchmen improve to 3-3-1 on the season. The hosts got the scoring started in the 18th minute when Andrew Fontaine fed a cross to Kevin Janson for a goal. Fontaine would add a score of his own 17 minutes later beating two Roo defenders. Union led 2-0 at intermission.
Ethan Strauss and Kevin Janson both added their second scores of the season in a three-minute span to open up a 4-0 lead. Alex Kirsch and Noah Altamirano tacked on late goals for the 6-0 final.
Patrick Anunziatta (Schenectady, NY) got the start in net for the Roos in his hometown making three saves. Austin Lamay (Malone, NY) made two saves in relief, while Rudy DeNinno (Herkimer, NY) saw his first action of the season over the final eight minutes. Ryan Carter earned the win for the Dutchmen making two stops.
The Roos managed just two shots on goal, while Union challenged the Roo keepers 11 times. The men's soccer team is back in action on Wednesday when they host Clarkson University at 7:00 p.m.
