(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men’s lacrosse team will not replay their ECAC championship first-round game against Centenary College.
The Roos earned the 6th seed in the 2013 ECAC championship, and traveled to face the Cyclones in the opening round on Wednesday, May 8 in New Jersey. Six minutes into the opening quarter, the game was stopped due to lighting with Centenary leading 3-2. After a delay of an hour and 45 minutes, the game was called and the Roos travelled back to Canton so several players could take final exams the next day.
The decision was made not to have SUNY Canton travel back to New Jersey to finish the game due to issues with travel, weather, scheduling and final exams. Centenary, by leading the game when it was stopped, will advance in the tournament and play Frostburg State at Albright College in Reading, Pa. in the semifinals on Saturday.
All statistics from the first-round game are voided due to the cancellation, and SUNY Canton finishes their season with a 6-6 overall record in their just second season as an intercollegiate program. The Roos were the second SUNY Canton team to earn an ECAC berth, joining the men’s soccer team in the fall.
