Alfred, NY – Trenton Yule had a hand in five of the Roos six goals but the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-6 decision to host Alfred State College in the opening round of the USCAA Classic on Saturday.
The host Pioneers (5-9) jumped out to a 5-2 halftime lead as Joe Johnson scored four goals in the opening half including a hat trick in the first quarter. Yule and Cam Carter tallied the first half scores for the Roos (3-9).
Canton got within 6-4 after three periods outscoring Alfred State 2-1 in the third quarter behind Yule's 22nd and 23rd goals of the season but the hosts used a 4-2 edge in goals over the final 15 minutes to earn the 10-6 victory.
Kody Kocsis made 13 saves in the loss, while Ryan Amidon turned aside eight of the 14 shots he faced in the win.
The men's lacrosse team will face either Dean College on Sunday at 12 p.m.
