Worcester, MA – The SUNY Canton men's hockey team scored four times in a span of 1:35 and got an unbelievable effort from Louie Puig (Chicago, IL) between the pipes to defeat host Assumption College, 4-1, Saturday evening.

Puig stopped a career-high 52 shots while letting in just one shot to give the Roos (5-14-2) a huge performance in goal. After a scoreless first period in which Puig turned aside 15 Assumption shots it was SUNY Canton who got the scoring started 9:38 into the second period when Saylor Preston (Winnipeg, MB) lit the lamp on the power play off passes from Joe Casale (Niagara Falls, NY) and Taylor Pickering (Marine City, MI). Preston struck again just 14 seconds later off the set-up from Austin Root (Manhattan Beach, CA) and in the blink of an eye SUNY Canton led 2-0.

The Roos continued to put the pressure on the Greyhounds as Sam McLaughlin (Ottawa, ON) netted his second marker of the season just 21 seconds after Preston's second score of the night to blow the game open to 3-0. Casale and Vance Bridgman (North Pole, AK) assisted the McLaughlin tally. One minute later the Roos were on the attack again as Cory Giczewski (Fountain Valley, CA) beat the opposing goaltender for his team-leading ninth time this season. J.R. Lafferty (Williamstown, NJ) earned his team-best 11th assist of the season.

After a remarkable sequence of four scores in 1:35 of clock time and Puig blanking the Assumption attack to the tune of 22 saves in the second period the Roos took a 4-0 lead into second intermission.

Alex Erban scored his sixth of the season 10:37 into the third frame, but Puig made another 15 saves in the final 20 minutes to preserve the 4-1 win. The Roos went 1-for-5 with the extra skater, while the SUNY Canton penalty kill unit was 5-for-5.

The men's hockey team returns home to the Roos House on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop against Franklin Pierce University. The Roos will celebrate Zach Hamilton Night on Friday.
