Roos men's hockey upended by Wesleyan

(Middletown, Conn.)- The SUNY Canton men’s ice hockey team lost at Wesleyan University 9-2 Saturday night in Middletown, Conn.

The Roos were playing their second of three games in less than a week as their record dropped to 3-8 overall following their first ever meeting with the Cardinals.

Wesleyan built a 3-0 lead in the first period before the Roos trimmed the lead to two with 42 seconds left in the period when senior Brad Wilson (Orleans, Ontario) scored his first goal of the year from senior John Payne (Port Moody, B.C.) and freshman Vance Bridgman (North Pole, Alaska).

Bridgman then struck for his second goal of the year when he tallied a power play score from Wilson and senior Corey Frizell (Orleans, Ontario) at the 8:21 mark of the third period.

Wesleyan notched four goals in the second period including three straight from Nick Craven to take control of the game.

Freshman goalie Luis Puig (Chicago, Ill.) played the first two periods for SUNY Canton and made 24 saves before being replaced by sophomore Morgan Barr (Almonte, Ontario) who made three saves in the final period.

Matt Hadge had 11 saves for Wesleyan.

The Roos return to the ice on Sunday for a game at Trinity College in West Hartford, Conn. at 1 p.m.
