Manchester, NH – The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team was unable to overcome an early deficit falling 6-1 to Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday evening. The game was played at the Verizon Wireless Arena, home of the Manchester Monarchs, AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings.
The Penmen got on the board first on the power play at 12:07 of the first on Dane Caracino's 13th goal of the season. SNHU took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Kevin Lorcher scored twice for Southern New Hampshire less than three minutes apart in the second period and Joe Collins added a power play marker to help the Penmen take a commanding 4-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.
The Penmen added two goals in the final period, while the Eric Witzel (Ottawa, ON) scored his team-leading 12th of the season off passes from Kasey Kulczycki (Laval, QUE) and Dave Ferris (Saratoga Springs, NY).
Louie Puig (Chicago, IL) stopped 21 shots and Christopher Marsillo (Lincroft, NJ) turned aside five shots in relief. David Letarte made 23 saves in the win for the Penmen.
The Roos will close out their season in a rematch against SNHU on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
