Oswego, NY – Nick Vasilopoulos (Montreal, QC) scored early in the second to get the men's hockey team within one but seven unanswered goals gave host Oswego State a 9-1 victory on Friday night at the Marano Campus Center Ice Arena.
Sean Federow got the scoring started for the Lakers 5:55 into the first and Stephen Johnson added a power play marker with 20 seconds left in the opening period to give the hosts a 2-0 lead after the first.
Vasilopoulos lit the lamp off a pass from George Curry (Schaumburg, IL) 5:32 into the second period to get the Roos within one but just 18 seconds later Mitchell Herlihey added a tally with the extra skater to regain a two goal lead. Back-to-back markers from Matt Galati and Mike Montagna made it 5-1 Lakers after two.
Oswego State added four goals in the final period including one on the power play for the 9-1 final. Spencer Landry (New Hartford, NY) made 25 saves in net over the first 54:48 for the Roos, while Louie Puig (Chicago, IL) turned aside one shot in the final 5:12. Justin Gilbert made 15 saves in the win for Oswego.
The hosts went 3-for-4 with the skater advantage on the night, while SUNY Canton was 0-for-3. The Roos are back in action Saturday at 7:00 p.m. when they visit the College at Brockport.
