Roos men’s hockey closes out 2015 portion of schedule against Wildcats

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's hockey dropped a 5-0 decision to visiting Johnson & Wales University on Saturday afternoon in the Roos House.

Greg Soltes opened the scoring for the Wildcats (5-3-3) at 7:18 of the first on his first goal of the season. Johnson & Wales added a power play goal midway through the period as Michael Mazzotta buried his third of the season at 9:40. The visitors took a 2-0 lead into first intermission.

The teams combined for 13 shots in a scoreless second period before Johnson & Wales added three goals from Matt Lanzillotti, Luke Nickels and Jonathan Ruiz for the 5-0 final.

Josh Sova (Oswego, NY) led the team with four shots on goal and went 10-for-18 in the faceoff circle. The team combined for 29 penalties including multiple disqualifications in a physical game.

The Wildcats went 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Roos were 0-for-7 with the skater advantage. Louie Puig (Chicago, IL) made 22 saves for SUNY Canton, while Joey Ballmer turned aside 20 shots for JWU.

The men's hockey team is off until 2016 when it opens play in the Middlebury College Invitational against the host Panthers at 5 PM on January 2nd.
