Roos men's basketball stage 66-63 comeback v. Pioneers

Alfred, NY – Sam Annorh and Romario Fletcher combined for 44 points as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team edged Alfred State College 66-63 on the road on Friday.

Annorh finished with a game-high 23 points to go with seven assists, while Fletcher posted 21 points and 12 rebounds on 8-for-16 shooting including a 4-for-8 mark from long distance. The double-double is the 12th of the season for the senior. Rashad Richardson also finished in double figures for the Roos with 10 points, while Walt Jeter ripped down a game-high 14 boards.

Alfred State jumped out to a quick 7-0 start and opened their largest lead of the game at 27-8 8:40 into the contest after a three-pointer from Justin Wallace. The Roos outscored the Pioneers 28-15 the remainder of the half to get within striking distance at 42-36 at intermission.

Canton stormed out of the locker room scoring the first eight points after halftime that including a make from distance by Annorh and Fletcher and a thunderous dunk from Fletcher, giving the Roos their first lead of the game at 44-42.

The Pioneers netted five straight points to regain a three-point edge two minutes later. With Alfred State leading 51-49 Canton used a 6-0 run behind a pair of makes from deep from Jeter and Fletcher. The Pioneers got within one on multiple occasions but the Roos would not relinquish the lead over the final 12:16 of the contest.

Alfred State had a chance in a one possession game late to tie it but Richardson force Wallace into a turnover to secure the victory. Wallace paced the Pioneers with 17 points, while Marquis Edwards and Tyrone Davis chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.

"Great road win for our guys tonight," Head Coach Ben Thompson said. "Tons of credit to Alfred State; they play so hard. I was pleased that we were able to match their energy and effort."

The men's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Sunday when they visit Vermont Tech at 2 p.m.
