(Clermont, Fla.)-The SUNY Canton baseball team continued their winter break training in West Palm Beach, Fla. by winning one and losing one today against the Lions of Florida Memorial University (NAIA). The Roos won game two 4-3 after dropping the opener 11-3.
Game two against the Lions had the Roos taking an early lead with a RBI single by sophomore Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, N.Y.) which brought freshman Gerardo Torres (Stafford, Va.) in for the run. The Roos held the lead until the Lions leveled the score at 3-3 in the fifth inning. Michael Zelyez (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) broke the stalemate with a RBI groundout in the sixth with the go-ahead run on base.
Hunneyman relieved freshman Dom Deliberti (Staten Island, N.Y.) on the mound in the sixth inning. Deliberti pitched five innings, allowing three runs (1 earned), three hits, and three walks to earn the win. Hunneyman was 3-for-4 at bat, hitting three singles and an RBI, as well as two innings pitched with one strikeout.
The Roos (1-4) return to action tomorrow afternoon versus the Seahawks of Northwood University (4-8-0) where senior pitcher Josh Soffer (Ottawa, Ontario) is slated to start on the mound. Follow the action on Twitter @RoosBaseball.
