Alfred, NY – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team's offense struggled in the second half as they dropped a 90-71 road decision to Alfred University on Saturday evening.
After a back-and-forth opening 10 minutes that saw the game tied at 25 midway through the first half the Roos used a 7-0 run capped by a Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) old-fashioned three-point play. The lead was the largest of the game for SUNY Canton (14-5). The host Saxons trimmed away at the deficit and closed the half strong to take a 48-42 lead into intermission.
The Roos couldn't find their stroke in the second half shooting just 34 percent from the floor and 11 percent from behind the arc. Meanwhile, Alfred University (15-7) recorded marks of 46 and 44 percent, respectively, after halftime to help pull away and secure the win.
Annorh paced SUNY Canton with 22 points, six rebounds and five assists. Scott Bartenstein (Potsdam, NY) finished with 15 points including hitting three of his six attempts from deep.
Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) posted a double-double on 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Khalil Bratton (Queens, NY) added 10 points. Fletcher and Bratton combined to shoot 10-for-16 from the field.
Tyler Seelman led all players with 31 points on 11-for-18 shooting for Alfred, while Kevin McFall added 13 points. Dalton Walsh (12) and Tim Pacheco (10) also posted double figures for the Saxons.
The men's basketball team will continue it's Alfred, NY road trip when it squares off with Alfred State College on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
