Roos Lagzdina and Adams record hat tricks in women's hockey win at Daniel Webster

Tyngsboro, MA – Anna Lagzdina (Ozolnieki, Latvia) and Tess Adams (Calgary, AB) each recorded hat tricks and combined for 13 points as the SUNY Canton women's hockey team picked up their first Colonial Hockey Conference win with a 12-2 victory against Daniel Webster College on Friday evening at Skate 3 Arena.

Adams scored three times and added five assists, while Lagzdina posted three goals and two assists. Kat McNeilly (Scarborough, ON) lit the lamp twice and added two helpers, while Whitney Bernier (Newport, VT), Jessica Pele (Estevan, SK), Noelle Niemiec (Staten Island, NY and Hannah Brady (Jeannette, PA) all scored for the Roos (1-2-0, 1-0-0 CHC).

Daniel Webster (0-2-0, 0-1-0 CHC) opened the scoring at 2:24 of the first period on Jennifer Johnson's first of the period. SUNY Canton was quick to respond as Bernier netted her first collegiate goal in shorthanded variety off the setup from Pele. Adams and Lagzdina added first period goals, with Lagzdina's also coming shorthanded as the Roos led 3-1 after one.

Niemiec beat the opposing goaltender for the second time in two games off passes from Adams and Mariah McCue (Belleville, ON) 55 seconds into the second. Adams slotted her second of the night 8:19 into the middle period. Brady netted her first career goal at 12:39 on the power play off a pass from McNeilly and 17 seconds later McNeilly buried her second of the year. Lagzdina gave the Roos an 8-1 lead at 15:50 as Adams assisted her second consecutive goal.

SUNY Canton added third period tallies from McNeilly, Lagzdina, Adams and Pele for the 12-2 final. The Roos went 3-for-6 on the power play, while the Eagles were 0-for-4 with the skater advantage. SUNY Canton slotted two shorthanded markers, while Daniel Webster added one.

Illie Berisha (Lake Ariel, PA) turned aside 12 shots in her first collegiate victory. Ariana Kresic made 26 saves over the first 35:50 with Michelle Davis stopping four shots over the final 24:10 for the Eagles.

The Roos and Eagles will have a rematch on Saturday at 3 p.m. on the campus of UMass Lowell.
