(Williamsville, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men’s ice hockey team opened defense of their Eastern Collegiate Hockey League title with a convincing 7-1 win over the University of Buffalo at the Northtown Center at Amherst Saturday night.
Senior forward Rob Liggio (Canton, N.Y.) had two goals and one assist and sophomore goalie Michael Pittman (Amarillo, Texas) made 24 saves for the 16th-ranked Roos who remained undefeated improving to 9-0-3 overall.
Freshman Thomas Freeman (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) added two goals for SUNY Canton who outshot the Bulls 36-25. Senior Dan Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) contributed a goal and an assist. Freshman Austin Root (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and sophomore Cory Giczewski (Fountain Valley, Calif.) also scored and freshman Sean Gallagher (Sandwich, Mass.) added two assists.
Pittman won his team-leading fourth game of the year and he also leads the Roos' goaltending corps with a .958 save percentage having allowed just three goals this season.
Matt Bradley had 29 saves for Buffalo. The two teams play again Saturday night at 8:20.
