(Canton, N.Y.)- SUNY Canton hit a pair of home runs highlighted by a grand slam by junior Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.) to claim a 16-7 win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle in the second of three games on Sunday in Canton.

Presque Isle took game one 13-10 and won the nightcap 13-9. The two teams decided to play three games on Sunday after Saturday’s doubleheader was rained out.

Both teams had to battle cold and windy conditions throughout the day as temperatures never got above 40 degrees. But that didn't seem to cool off either team's bats as there was plenty of offense in all three games.

The Roos hit five home runs on the day, two coming from Lottie and sophomore Emiley Walters (Lancaster, N.Y.) and one from freshman Jessica Rhodes (Alpine, N.Y.). Lottie and Walters share the team-lead with five home runs apiece this spring.

In the second game win for the home team Walters cranked a two-run shot in the bottom of the first inning that helped erase a 4-0 Presque Isle lead. The Roos batted around in the opening stanza generating seven runs on five hits.

In the second inning with one run already in, sophomore Melissa Campoverde (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and freshman Marie Mason (Pulaski, N.Y.) singled and freshman Kelsey Nash (Tully, N.Y.) reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. Lottie then brought them all home blasting a grand slam inside the left-field pole.

SUNY Canton finished with 18 hits in that game led by Lottie who went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. She also got the win on the mound as she struck out two batters and scattered seven hits over 3 2/3 innings. Walters finished 2-for-3 and scored twice. Campoverde also had two hits and drove in three runs.

In the opening game Rhodes hit a lead-off solo home run to right field in the fourth inning for her first career home run. Walters followed an inning later with a two-run blast to center field. Rhodes finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and Walters was 1-for-3. Junior Jessica Measheaw (Hammond, N.Y.) and freshman Olivia Blackmore (Madrid, N.Y.) collected two hits each. Measheaw had two strikeouts and gave up 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings and Lottie had three strikeouts and allowed two hits in 3 2/3 innings.

In the final game the Roos fell behind 10-4 late in the contest but posted five runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull within a single run. Presque Isle answered with three runs in the top of the seventh and forced the Roos to go three-and-out to close out the game in the bottom half of the inning.

Lottie’s second home run was a one-out solo line drive that cleared the center field fence in the third inning of the third game. She finished 3-for-4 and added a double and three runs. Rhodes also had three hits and scored twice and Blackmore doubled and had two hits along with Walters and sophomore Shiloh Bourgeois (Keesville, N.Y.).

Measheaw started the game on the mound in game three and had one strikeout in four innings. Lottie came on in relief and had two strikeouts and gave up only one hit in three innings.

Kellie Peers had five hits on the day to lead the Owls who used three different pitchers in each game.

The Roos are next in action on Wednesday, April 25 when they host SUNY Potsdam in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
