(Oswego, NY) The Lady Roos Lacrosse team closed out its inaugural season today on the road versus a tough SUNY Oswego team. Captain Tressa Goolden (Canton, NY) scored two goals and had two assists on the day as SUNY Canton lost to the Lady Lakers by a score of 23-5.
Opening up the scoring for the Roos early in the first half was Brittany DiBenenedetto (Bronx, NY) with an assist from Brooke Knight (Madrid, NY). Also scoring in the first half for Canton in front of her hometown crowd was Devyn Hutchinson (Oswego, NY) with an assist from Goolden. Brittani Bessette (Canton, NY) closed out the first half scoring with a goal nine seconds from the halftime whistle and Goolden again had the assist. The half ended with a score of 14-3 in favor of the Lady Lakers. In the net for the first 30 minutes was Holli-Jo Cota (Ogdensburg, NY) who faced 26 shots, making eight saves in the half.
The second period saw two goals by the Lady Roos, both unassisted efforts scored by Goolden. Courtney Drake (Philadelphia, NY) took over between the posts and faced 17 shots, making three saves in the effort.
The Roos ended their first season with a record of 2-9 and saw great improvements throughout the spring. In all areas, their statistics improved and the coaching staff remarked on the great strides the team made.
