RUTLAND, VT--The SUNY Canton men's soccer team survived a physical and scrappy game to give first-year head coach Mark Howlett his first collegiate win with a 3-0 shutout of the College of St. Joseph Saturday afternoon in Rutland, Vt.

The Roos, 1-0 in the Sunrise Conference and 1-3 overall, out shot the Saints by an impressive 24-9 margin and jumped out quickly in the first half.

In the opening minute of play James Catillaz (Gansevoort, N.Y.) launched a corner kick right to the foot of Loocken Vixama (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who knocked it in for his first goal of the season.

Midway through the first half Vixams sent a beautiful cross to senior Repton Abrahams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who sent a shot into the back of the net for his first tally of the season.  Then late in the second half Vixama capped the win with an unassisted goal.  The Roos did score two other goals in the game that were disallowed.

SUNY Canton wraps up their Vermont trip on Sunday with an 11 a.m. game against Sunrise Conference opponent Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center.
