(Hartford, Conn.)- The SUNY Canton men’s ice hockey team couldn’t overcome a strong first period by Trinity College as the Roos lost to the Bantams 5-0 Sunday afternoon in Hartford, Conn.

Trinity scored a pair of goals in a two minute stretch of the opening stanza and would eventually lead 3-0 at the end of the first 20 minutes.

The Bantams fired 18 more shots at the Roos in the second stanza but were blanked by starter Luis Puig (Chicago, Ill.), who had four saves in the second period after allowing three goals on 18 shots in the first period and junior Michael Pittman (Amarillo, Texas), who stopped all 14 shots he faced after replacing Puig midway through the period. Pittman had 19 more saves on 21 shots in the third period for a game total of 33 and Puig finished with 19 in a period and a half of work for the Roos (3-9).

Jeff Menard scored twice and assisted on two other goals to lead the Bantams and Kevin Green made 25 saves to earn the shutout victory.

The Roos conclude their taxing 11-game road stretch Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 with a pair of games at Division II Southern New Hampshire University before returning home to Roos House Dec. 7 and 8 for a two-game series with the University of Rhode Island.
